Cycling Singapore

The move to Singapore has taken my cycling to a new level.  With great weather all year round, I’m averaging 250-350km a week.  Most of it is in the pre-dawn hours before the sun rises.  Start at 5am, back before breakfast!  It’s a great way to start the day, and give you more energy at work!

My latest gadget to help in my new found  (or re-found?) activity is a Garmin Edge 500 cycling computer, which uses GPS to track my workouts.  For the past three months I used an iPhone app called “Cyclemeter”, but is doesn’t record heart-rate and is limited to *only* 999.99 km/month!  The Garmin’s battery can handle my longest rides (6+ hours), and doesn’t need a data connection for GPS to work.   I rode a 6 hour 200km route in Desaru, Malaysia a few weeks ago, and bummed I couldn’t record the ride.  The data charges would have been astronomical, and the iPhone would have died after the first 120km.

Here’s my Saturday ride around western Singapore with my friends from Team Bandung
